Spanish Report: Marc Gasol to Memphis
A Spanish media outlet is reporting Marc Gasol will sign a three-year deal with the Grizzlies and announce his decision Monday.
Under league rules, Gasol wouldn’t be able to sign a contract with the Grizzlies until after next season’s cap is set in July, so don’t expect to hear any official comment from the Grizzlies until after the draft, but it does appear that Gasol will be in Beale Street Blue next season.
If the reports of the contract — three-years at around $3 million per — are accurate, then this is a good deal for the Grizzlies, as Gasol’s age, size, and production in the world’s second best league all suggest he will be a viable rotation player in the NBA at worst and very possibly a quality starting center. Adding Gasol to Darko Milicic solidifies that position and probably takes Brook Lopez out of the draft mix for the Grizzlies.
